Since 3G became widely deployed, mobile internet modems have become useful as primary or backup Internet connections for many applications.

Our software doesn't provide support for mobile/cellular data (3G/LTE) modems itself, because of the difficulties to support the rapidly evolving modem hardware and mobile operator configurations. We generally recommend that one use the bundled router that comes with most cellular data subscriptions instead of trying to use a USB modem connected directly to our software.

Unofficial support

OpenBSD does support many 3G/LTE modems, and brave users can of course try to get it working using root access and skeleton files, for example by adding the necessary commands to /cfg/skel/rc.local.
